An IPL Photofacial is a non-invasive skin rejuvenation treatment that uses Intense Pulsed Light to improve the appearance of sun damage, pigmentation, redness, and other concerns. Unlike a laser, IPL delivers multiple wavelengths to target discoloration and visible vessels at once, while supporting collagen for healthier, more radiant skin — with little to no downtime.
One important note: this is a photofacial for your skin — it targets pigment and redness, not hair. It's a different treatment from the laser hair removal we also offer.
How It Works
Broad-Spectrum Light
Controlled pulses of broad-spectrum light penetrate the skin without damaging the surface.
Targets Two Pigments
It targets two pigments at once — brown (melanin: sunspots, freckles, pigmentation) and red (hemoglobin: redness, rosacea, visible vessels).
Natural Clearing
Over the following days and weeks your body clears the treated pigment as fresh collagen forms, leaving brighter, more even skin.
Treated brown spots often darken for several days, then flake away naturally. Downtime is minimal, and results may vary.
Is IPL Right for Your Skin Tone?
Honesty matters here. IPL is best suited for light-to-medium skin tones. It is not recommended for melasma, or for darker skin tones, where it can be less effective — and may even worsen pigmentation. At your consultation we assess your skin carefully, and if IPL isn't the right fit for you, we'll guide you to a gentler, better-suited option so you get results safely.
For melasma-prone or richer skin tones, these are gentler, better-suited options:
Even Tone, Clearer Skin.

Best results come from a series of 3–5 treatments spaced 3–4 weeks apart, with occasional maintenance. Results may vary.

What is an IPL Photofacial?
An IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Photofacial is a non-invasive skin rejuvenation treatment that uses broad-spectrum light to improve the appearance of sun damage, brown spots, redness, and uneven tone, while supporting collagen for brighter, healthier-looking skin — with little to no downtime.
Is IPL a laser?
No. Unlike a laser, which uses a single focused wavelength, IPL delivers multiple wavelengths that target both pigment (brown spots) and redness (visible vessels) at once. It's also a photofacial for your skin — not laser hair removal, which is a separate treatment we offer.
What can it treat?
IPL can improve the appearance of sun damage, age spots, freckles, hyperpigmentation, uneven tone, rosacea-related redness, broken capillaries, and dullness, and it can support a smoother, more radiant complexion. We'll confirm what's realistic for your skin at your consultation.
How many treatments will I need?
Most people see the best results from a series of about 3 to 5 treatments spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart, sometimes with occasional maintenance. Your provider will recommend a plan for your skin and goals. Results may vary.
Does it hurt?
Most clients tolerate it well — it's often described as a quick, warm snap, like a light rubber-band flick, with built-in cooling for comfort. Sensitivity varies from person to person.
How long does it take?
A session is typically quick — often around 20 to 30 minutes depending on the area treated. We'll confirm at your visit.
Is there downtime?
Downtime is minimal. Skin may look flushed for a few hours, and treated brown spots often darken for several days before flaking away naturally. Most people continue their normal routine — with diligent sun protection.
When will I see results?
Many clients notice brighter, more even-looking skin within a week or two as treated pigment clears, with continued improvement over a series of sessions. Individual results vary.
Who is a good candidate?
IPL works best for light-to-medium skin tones and concerns like sun damage and redness. It isn't recommended for melasma or for darker skin tones, where it can be less effective or worsen pigmentation — for those, we'll guide you to a gentler option like a Brightening Facial or a chemical peel. We always assess your skin first.
Can it help rosacea?
IPL can help reduce the appearance of the redness and flushing associated with rosacea for many people, but it doesn't cure rosacea, and results vary. We'll review your skin and history to see whether it's a good fit.
Can it remove brown spots?
For suitable skin tones, IPL can significantly improve the appearance of sun-related brown spots and freckles — the spots often darken and then flake away over the following days. It reduces their appearance rather than guaranteeing permanent removal, and results vary.
Can I wear makeup after?
We generally recommend giving your skin a little time to settle before makeup — often later that day or the next day. We'll give you simple aftercare so you know exactly what to expect.
What should I avoid before and after?
Avoid sun exposure and self-tanner for a couple of weeks before and after, and skip harsh actives right around your treatment. Daily SPF is essential. We'll send you home with clear, simple instructions.
Are results permanent?
IPL can lastingly improve the look of existing sun damage, but it doesn't stop new sun exposure or the natural aging process — so ongoing sun protection and occasional maintenance help keep your results. Longevity varies from person to person.
Can it be combined with other treatments?
Yes. IPL pairs well with facials and other skincare treatments as part of a plan. We'll help you sequence things safely and build the right combination at your consultation.
